Pocket PC Technology

Versions supporting Pocket PC

Since the release of the SmartWare 4.5 release the product has been portable to a Pocket PC.  Most of the features are supported on Pocket PCs.  ODBC support on a Pocket is an unsupported feature.

Requirements of Pocket PC

Since the number of devices in the Pocket PC field has grown over a relatively short period of time it is difficult to say which models will work well with Smartware.  We feel confident most model will work fine if they are of the CE operating system and have sufficient memory to perform the tasks required.

Installation of Pocket PC

Installation of RAD application to a Pocket PC may include moving the files, creating a RAD shortcut from within SmartWare, using the Function Menu on the Pocket, or installing a full keyboard found in the SmartWare installation media.  Please refer to documentation on this site for more assistance.

SmartWare RAD applications use a utility called pathset to define all commonly use file paths as variables.  As a Pocket PC does not use a hard drive designation (ie. C:\), all paths are normally relative.  In most models, c:\ is replaced with just  \ or .\ . Each model of Pocket PC may differ.

Using Pocket PC and a Server Version

SmartWare Server can be used in conjunction with a Pocket PC.  Data from a Pocket can be transferred to the SmartWare Server via a wireless connection.
